Under the creative direction of Executive Chef Sean Kelly and Chef Tien Kelly, our kitchen is well stocked with both fresh ingredients and talent. Our chefs have been trained at some of America’s top culinary schools bringing their enthusiasm for producing creative food to your table. Kelly's Steak and Seafood State College Restaurant offers a menu of food and beverages with a distinctive Pacific Northwest image. Our kitchen is committed to serving only the finest products, and receives daily shipments of fresh, beef, seafood and poultry. We serve only 28 day dry aged Nebraska or Certified Angus Beef steaks and our ahi tuna is flown in fresh from Hawaii. All of our beef and poultry and most of our seafood comes from the same company that supplies the White House!!
Our service staff is well educated, with regular training seminars in service and wine knowledge. You will be provided with professional service in a relaxed atmosphere. You won't find many State Store brands in our wine cellar; the bottles on our list represent a variety of wines from across the country, chosen to complement our Pacific Northwest cuisine at a reasonable price. Our restaurant is located at 316 Boal Ave., Route 322 East in the historic village of Boalsburg, a suburb of State College, Pennsylvania. State College is the home of Penn State University and Nittany Lion football and basketball. The building that Kelly's Steak and Seafood Restaurant occupies was the former Boalsburg Steak House, a historic landmark that boasted a twelve foot tall steer on the roof and one of the first liquor licenses in the State College area. After an extensive renovation in 2004 that left little of the original structure except the steer, Kelly's opened its doors to rave reviews from both community leaders, for the resurrection of a landmark, and guests for the excellent food and service. We are proud to have been voted by the readers of State College, The Magazine as the winners of three categories for 2005: The Best Steak Restaurant, The Best New Restaurant and the Best Building Renovation. This honor was followed up by a 2006 repeat as The Best Steak Restaurant in the Centre Region. Chef Sean Kelly grew up in the Boalsburg area and began working in local State College restaurants when he was sixteen. After completing his culinary training at the prestigious Culinary Institute of America, he worked at the famous Brown Palace Hotel in Denver; was the Executive Chef of Fat Hog Bobs in Tortola in the British Virgin Islands; was the Executive Sous Chef at Elliott's Oyster House in Seattle; and was the Senior Training Sous Chef at Palisade Restaurant in Seattle, one of the top fifty privately owned restaurants in the country. Sean met and married his wife Tien, also a chef, while in Seattle. They have two young sons, Daniel and Connor. A desire to raise their two young sons in Central Pennsylvania as well as an opportunity to open their own State College restaurant with a signature Pacific Northwest steak and seafood theme lead to the metamorphosis from the Boalsburg Steak House to Kelly's Steak and Seafood. Sean and Tien feel blessed to be in Boalsburg and are very grateful for the overwhelming support that the community has given their restaurant concepts.
Our two Private Dining Room Rooms, accommodating up to fifty guests, are the ideal location for your next special event, be it business or personal. Allow us the opportunity to serve you in the style to which you should be accustomed.
We offer a full range of catering service for your off-site buffet style, picnic style, tailgate or fine dining experience.
Our Lounge is a casual place, open early for lunch and staying open late for food and beverages. We serve a full range of microbrews, draft beers, cocktails and wine by the glass and by the bottle.
